The Koch Brothers Are Watching You

They’ve built personality profiles on most Americans.

The Center for Media and Democracy uncovered documents revealing the billionaire Koch brothers have developed personality profiles on 89 percent of the U.S. population. They are using these profiles to launch an unprecedented private propaganda offensive.

The documents also show the Kochs have developed persuasion models that target voters with tailored messaging on select issues, and partner with cable and satellite TV providers to play those tailored messages during regular television broadcasts.

Big data and microtargeting has revolutionized politics. The Koch brothers have invested billions in data aggregation, machine learning, software engineering and Artificial Intelligence optimization. With that investment, the Koch network is now better than either the Democratic or Republican Party at reaching voters with individually tailored propaganda.

The Koch group has a dangerous scope of power with potentially dramatic consequences for democracy. The Koch brothers’ operation amounts to a shadow political party in the United States, one that enables Koch Industries to bring in $115 billion annually in private revenue.
