PayPal said it will cancel multiple accounts used by anti-fascist groups and accounts used by the alt-right Proud Boys and their founder Gavin McInnes. Just the latest act of “deplatforming” by big tech, which has been grappling with how to effectively censor specific ideologies.
The company is canceling accounts for Atlanta Antifa, Antifa Sacramento, and the Anti-Fascist Network. The ban will include the Proud Boys account as well as an account used by its founder, Gavin McInnes.
A PayPal spokesperson said. “We work hard to achieve the right balance…”
PayPal had previously canceled accounts for other anti-fascist groups, Antifa Philadelphia, Antifa Arkansas, Belfast Antifa, and Rose City Antifa. In September big tech corporations did a coordinated removal of Alex Jones’ Infowars, shortly thereafter PayPal said it would no longer provide service to the site.
