Julian Assange’s lawyers were not allowed to enter the Ecuador’s embassy in London, WikiLeaks announced on twitter. Assange has lived in the embassy since seeking asylum in June 2012. The WikiLeaks editor feared he would be sent to the US to face charges for publishing information leaked by whistleblower Chelsea Manning.
WikiLeaks said that the Ecuadorian government refused access to his lawyers, Aitor Martinez and Jen Robinson, over the weekend. Assange faces a US court hearing Tuesday and needs to meet with his legal team to prepare.
Wikileaks continued with a tweet,
“The hearing is on Tuesday in the national security court complex at Alexandria, Virginia and is to remove the secrecy order on the US charges against him.” A US court document leaked in November revealed the US has already placed secret charges on Assange.
Assange has only recently been allowed to have visitors since being cut off from the outside world and the internet. Ecuador’s President has terminated the credentials of Ecuador’s London ambassador Abad Ortiz. WikiLeaks has contextualized the termination saying that “All diplomats known to Assange have now been transferred away from the embassy.”
