MAJOR EARTHQUAKE STRIKES ALASKA

A major 7.0 magnitude earthquake has struck Alaska. The earthquake hit about 8:30 a.m. Friday local time.

The quake was centred roughly seven miles north of Anchorage, according to the US Geological Survey. Around 200 earthquakes have hit Alaska since Friday, when the 7.0 magnitude earthquake tore open roads near Anchorage.

Around 300,000 people live in Anchorage with 100,000 in the surrounding area.
