Hundreds March on Amazon Warehouse in Minnesota

Hundreds of workers and local activists marched on the sprawling Amazon warehouse in Shakopee, Minnesota. The protest attended by local activists and joined by Amazon workers ending their shifts, had around 250 people marching on the building’s main entrance.

Discontent began as a reaction to allegations that the pace Amazon set for its workers, many who are Muslims, was impacting their religious freedom. Amazon’s performance metrics make things like bathroom breaks so difficult they sometimes lead to docked pay or even being fired for not complying with Amazon’s expectations.

Friday’s protest was intended to pressure Amazon to improve working conditions and allow for proper religious expression, and to set up an independent review body for HR complaints.
