Yellow Vest protesters occupied highway toll booths across France and let motorists through for free. France’s biggest toll operator, Vinci Autoroutes, said there were demonstrations at more than 40 locations just on its network.
Vinci estimates the damages since the start of protesters occupying toll booths and destroying cameras will cost “several tens of millions,” not including the lost revenue of thousands of motorists being allowed on the highways for free by protesters.
The toll operator started sending notices to drivers who had passed through the tolls during the Yellow Vest occupation without paying. Popular outrage ensued and Vinci changed its position and cancelled the charges.
