Stock markets staged an across the board comeback Wednesday following the worst Christmas Eve ever for markets. The Dow posted its biggest single day point increase ever.
The Dow soared 1,086 points, up 5%. The S&P 500 also soared 5%, and the Nasdaq was up 5.8%, pulling out of a bear market.
The day marked the biggest percentage gain for all three indices since March 2009.
Stocks rose higher with little news. Only one stock on the S&P 500 fell, Newmont Mining Corp which fell 0.1%. It had been the S&P 500’s biggest gainer on Christmas eve after the price of gold rose.
