Yellow Vest Demonstrators Try to Storm President Macron’s Summer Palace

Yellow vests have attempted to storm French president Emmanuel Macron’s vacation retreat. Protesters tried to infiltrate the medieval fort of Bregancon that serves as Mr Macron’s summer retreat. Around 50 yellow vest demonstrators descended on the president’s home before being turned back by police. Demonstrators say they will try again.

The yellow vest movement has grown from anger over a fuel tax increase to broader condemnation of Mr. Macron, whom critics accuse of being the president for the rich, neglecting the rising cost of living for much of France.

The presidency now refuses to disclose where Mr. Macron and his wife Brigitte are vacationing.

In Paris, demonstrations continue for the 7th consecutive Saturday and more are planned for New Year’s Eve. Officials say they will move ahead with the traditional New Year’s Eve fireworks display on the Champs-Elysees despite the planned protests.
