US Military Occupation of Afghanistan Now Supported by Far More Democrats Than Republicans

A new poll from Politico shows that support for the ongoing military occupation of Afghanistan is higher among Democrats than almost any group polled. Democrats were more likely to support the ongoing military occupation than Republicans, Independents, Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Registered Voters, and Military Households.

Politicos Poll on Withdraw from Afghanistan :

                                Support / Oppose

Democrats –                 40% / 41%

Independents –            53% / 23%

Republicans –               76% / 15%

Registered voters –      56% / 27%

Black –                            40% / 38%

White –                           60% / 25%

Hispanic –                      49% / 28%

Military Households-  62% / 29%

The survey asked the question “As you may know, President Trump ordered the start of a reduction of U.S. military presence in Afghanistan, with about half of the approximately 14,000 U.S. troops there set to begin returning home in the near future. Based on what you know, do you support or oppose President Trump’s decision?”

40 percent of Democrats responded with either somewhat or strongly support, and  41 percent either somewhat or strongly opposing.

76 percent of Republicans responded as either somewhat or strongly supporting the decision, while only 15 percent oppose it to any extent.

The results between political parties stands in stark contrast to polls throughout the Bush and Obama administrations.
