Greek riot police fired tear gas against protesting school teachers in Athens for the second time this week. Police have been accused recently of attacking teachers indiscriminately under similar circumstances.
More than 3,000 people took part in the protest, holding banners that read “Permanent hirings now!” The teachers say schools need more staff and demand the creation of new permanent positions.
2,000 teachers protested Monday and police attacked with tear gas and stun grenades to disperse dozens of protesters who broke through a police barricade, attacking officers with sticks rocks and fireworks. The clashes didn’t last for long.
