A union representing couriers at Amazon says the tech giant engaged in unfair labor practices resulting in the termination of employees, the closure of one courier companies local operation and the bankruptcy of another.
In applications filed with the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Canada accused Amazon of using its control over sub-contractors to create a “chilling effect” against the organization of a union.
The union is seeking a declaration that Amazon violated the Employment Standards Act and demands reinstatement and compensation for lost wages for laid-off workers at two subcontracted companies.
