Photos of shipping containers and oil tankers blocking a bridge between Venezuela and Colombia are a PR stunt being used as propaganda to prove the Venezuelan government is blocking US aid.
Left out of the initial media reports was the fact that the international aid community hadn’t asked for “aid,” and Elliott Abrams, the US special envoy to Venezuela, has a history of using aid to smuggle weapons to US-backed forces in Latin America. Not to mention, the Tienditas Bridge has never been opened for traffic and those shipping containers have been used as a barricade to block traffic for at least two years.
The Red Cross has been working with local authorities inside Venezuela to deliver relief, and just doubled its budget to do so. The Venezuelan government has not allowed the USAID vehicles in on the other open bridges between Colombia and Venezuela, that have been and continue to be operational.
Both the International Red Cross and the UN warned the US to not engage in these types of PR stunts. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo ignored their warning and used the PR stunt to try and whip up support for US intervention to overthrow the government of Venezuela.
