India: 50,000 Farmers Begin March to Mumbai Over Government Betrayal

50,000 farmers from 23 districts are marching to Mumbai. The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) announced several groups would take part in the 100 mile march from Nashik. The groups say the BJP government has betrayed farmers. This is the second time in the last year farmers will make the 100 mile march to protest the “betrayal” of farmers by the BJP government.

Farmers are demanding immediate relief from drought-like conditions; irrigation issues; land rights; and crop insurance.

The district administration in Nashik had refused permission for the groups to organize a farmers march, but the groups have gone forward with the march anyway.
