The City Council in San Diego, California voted 6-3 in favor of re-establishing the local criminalization of poverty and homelessness, instituting a ban on people sleeping in cars on city streets.
San Diego’s Mayor, Kevin Faulconer put forward the ordinance after federal courts found the city’s previous ban to be illegal, “vague” and overreaching.
Opponents say the new version of the bill is still illegal.
