A convenience store in Tacoma, Washington is using facial recognition technology to control who is allowed in the store.
A sign at the front of the Jacksons Food Store reads, “Look at camera for entry” and “Facial Recognition Technology In Use.” An automated voice tells customers through a speaker to look at the camera. The sign says the facial recognition system is designed by Blue Line Technology.
The company said the technology is designed to prevent theft and robberies. People’s pictures can be uploaded into the system and if Jackson Food Store finds people showing up at the door that they deem undesirable, they are locked out.
