This is the strongest earthquake to have hit the area in over 20 years. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 7.1magnitude earthquake late on Friday around 11 miles from Ridgecrest, California.
Several fires and injuries have been reported in the Kern County city of Ridgecrest about 150 miles from Los Angeles.
The earthquake follows just one day behind a 6.4 earthquake that struck the area on Thursday. Friday’s earthquake was along the same fault line.
More than 1,000 aftershocks have been recorded since Thursday’s earthquake.
The earthquake was felt in downtown Los Angeles, and all the way to Las Vegas, Nevada and down to Mexico, the USGS reported.
