Police in Mexico protested over their transfer to the new National Guard. Hundreds of federal police have been blocking roads and demonstrating in Mexico City.
The Mexican government said Thursday that a political conspiracy is behind recent protests by federal police. President of Mexico Lopez Obrador said the protests are being promoted by “dark forces.”
Federal cops say the government is cutting their pay and violating the constitution by putting them under military command.
Mexico’s Security Minister, Alfonso Durazo, said that “interest groups linked to corruption” were promoting the protests. He specifically mentioned Mexico’s former president Felipe Calderon of having ties to protest leaders.
