The US government has approved the sale of $2.2 billion worth of weapons to the Taiwanese government. The sale includes tanks and surface-to-air missiles.
“The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to TECRO for the M1A2T Abrams Tanks and related equipment and support Stinger missiles and related equipment and support for an estimated cost of $2 billion,” the Pentagon announced on Monday.
The sale, that still needs Congressional approval, includes more than 100 units of M1A2T Abrams Tanks and 250 Stinger missiles.
China’s Foreign Ministry said last month when the sale was first reported that it was seriously concerned about US weapons sales to the Taiwanese government.
